Also known as aloo tikki which is a very popular vegetarian street food in India! This awesome snack is made out of boiled potatoes, onions and various curry spices and it is so easy to prepare! "Aloo" means potato, and the word "tikki" means a small cutlet or croquette in Hindi. It is delicious served hot and warm along with a coriander-mint sauce or even tzatziki.
Ingredients
3 large potatoes peeled
¼ teas tumeric
Salt to taste
½ cup frozen peas
1 medium sized onion finely chopped
1 large chilli finely chopped
2 teas grated fresh ginger and garlic
1 teas chilli powder
1 teas cumin powder
1 teas coriander powder
1 tbles lemon juice
2 tbles chickpea flour
2 tbles fresh breadcrumbs
handful of fresh coriander chopped
Oil for frying
Instructions
Put the potatoes, into a pot along with the turmeric and a generous pinch of salt and cover with cold water. Once the potatoes have been boiled and mashed add all the other ingredients.
Shapes into patties and leave it to rest in the fridge for about 30 mins.
Heat a little oil over medium heat and fry for a few minutes on each side until golden brown.
Drain and cool on paper towels.
Serve with a coriander and mint sauce.
Notes
Be careful not to overcrowd the pan as it will be more difficult to turn!
